Malad Creek, also known as Marve Creek, is a significant water body in north-west Mumbai, located west of Malad. It serves as the drainage point for the Oshiwara River and is bordered by Madh Island to the west and Versova to the east.
Historically, the creek was surrounded by a vast expanse of mangroves, covering approximately 1,000 acres, but due to urban development and rising real estate prices, this area has significantly reduced to around 400 acres.
The creek spans about five kilometers in length and plays a crucial role in the local ecosystem. However, pollution has been a growing concern, with the Malad sewage treatment plant discharging waste into the creek, making it one of the most polluted water bodies in Mumbai.
