Malhargad
Malhargad Fort, also known as Sonori Fort, is a historic hill fort located near Saswad, about 30 kilometers from Pune, Maharashtra. Built in 1775 by Bhivrâo Yashvant and Krishnaji Mâdhavrâo Pânsê, it was the last fort constructed by the Marathas. The fort is named after the god Malhari and was strategically built to keep watch on the Pune-Saswad route.
The fort features two temples: a smaller one dedicated to Lord Khandoba and a larger one for Lord Mahadeva. From the top of the fort, visitors can enjoy stunning views of the surrounding valleys, the city of Jejuri, and Parvati Hills. The fort is well-preserved and offers a glimpse into the region's rich history.
Malhargad is an ideal spot for short day treks, as the trekking effort required is minimal. The trek to the top takes about 30 minutes, and the fort's structures, although not intact, are still worth exploring.
The surrounding area is beautiful, making it a perfect destination for a quick getaway from the city.
