Mama Bhagne Pahar

Mama Bhagne Pahar, located near Dubrajpur in Birbhum, West Bengal, is a fascinating geological formation. The site features a pair of almost spherical granite boulders, with one balancing precariously on top of the other, creating a striking and somewhat surreal sight. This natural wonder has earned the name "Mama Bhagne," which translates to "Maternal Uncle and Nephew" in Bengali, due to the resemblance of the boulders to a family relationship.

The area is steeped in mythology and local legends. One popular story suggests that the boulders were part of a bridge being constructed by Lord Rama during his quest to rescue Sita, and they fell off when his chariot was startled by horses. Another legend attributes the formation to the divine architect Viswakarma, who was tasked by Lord Shiva to build a second Kasi but abandoned the task when dawn broke.

Mama Bhagne Pahar is not just a geological marvel but also a cultural and spiritual site. At the base of the rocks, there is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, known as Pahareshwar Temple.
