Manjira Wildlife Sanctuary
Manjira Wildlife Sanctuary, located in Sangareddy district of Telangana about 50 km from Hyderabad, is a freshwater sanctuary and reservoir known for its diverse wildlife and rich birdlife.
Originally established as a crocodile sanctuary to protect the endangered mugger crocodile, the area now supports over 70 species of birds and various aquatic creatures, including freshwater turtles, prawns, and several types of fish.
The sanctuary’s nine small islands feature marshy fringes and thick tree cover, making them ideal nesting grounds for birds, while its dry savannah vegetation and wetlands create a thriving habitat. The reservoir provides drinking water to Hyderabad and Secunderabad and is a popular spot for birdwatching and boat rides, especially from November to March when migratory birds arrive.
