Manyakheta Fort
Manyakheta Fort, also known as Malkhed Fort, is situated in Kalaburagi district, Karnataka, on the banks of the Kagina River. It was the capital of the Rashtrakuta Empire from 814 AD to 968 AD, established by Emperor Amoghavarsha I, and later served as the capital for the Western Chalukya Empire.
The fort is notable for its impressive architecture, featuring four entrances and 52 bastions with walls over 20 feet high made from limestone blocks. The site includes several historic temples, a Jumma Masjid, dargahs, and ruins of a palace. Manyakheta was a significant cultural and academic center during its time, known for its religious and scholarly institutions, including Jain temples and ancient manuscripts.
