Mattancherry Palace
Mattancherry Palace, also known as the Dutch Palace, is a historic palace in Mattancherry, Kochi, Ernakulam district, Kerala. It was built by the Portuguese in 1545 as a gift to the Raja of Kochi to gain trading privileges. The Dutch renovated the palace in 1663, which is how it got its common name.
The palace showcases a blend of traditional Kerala architectural style called Nalukettu, with European influences. It features murals depicting Hindu temple art, significant portraits, and other fascinating exhibits like the ivory palanquin, royal umbrellas, and ceremonial costumes. Notably, the walls of the royal bed chamber are adorned with mural paintings that narrate the entire story of the Ramayana.
