Military Mahadev Temple

Military Mahadev Temple in Belagavi, Karnataka, is a serene and spiritually significant site nestled within a lush green park in the city's cantonment area. Established in 1955 by Lieutenant General S.M. Shrinagesh, then Commander-in-Chief of the Southern Command, the temple was envisioned as a place of worship for army personnel, which is why it carries the name "Military" Mahadev.

The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and features a striking black Shiva Lingam guarded by a seven-hooded serpent, flanked by two majestic Nandi statues. Its architecture reflects intricate South Indian temple design, with detailed carvings that enhance its sacred ambiance. The temple complex includes beautifully maintained gardens, a children’s play area, and even a small zoo, making it a peaceful retreat for families and visitors of all ages.

A fountain with an image of Lord Krishna welcomes guests at the entrance, adding to the charm of the surroundings. The temple is especially vibrant during Mahashivratri, when devotees gather for rituals like the Samuhik Panchamrit, offering honey, yogurt, milk, ghee, and sugar to the deity.
