Mohangad
Mohangad Fort, also known as Jaslodgad, is a ruined hill fort located in Pune district, Maharashtra, near Shirgaon village on the road between Bhor and Mahad. The fort lies at an altitude of approximately 3,608 feet on the Varandha Ghat range and was historically significant in protecting important trade routes between the Konkan coast and the Pune region. Shivaji Maharaj described the fort as long deserted in a 1659 letter but later instructed its repair and renaming to Mohangad, with Bajiprabhu Deshpande overseeing its reconstruction.
The fort features rock-cut steps, several water cisterns, and ruins including a temple dedicated to Goddess Janani, who is considered the fort's deity. From the fort, visitors can see several other forts on clear days, including Rajgad, Torna, and Pratapgad. The trek to Mohangad offers a moderate challenge through dense forest areas and stone steps, making it popular among history enthusiasts and trekkers.
