Motijheel Mosque, also known as Jama Masjid or Kala Masjid, is a historic Friday mosque located on the western bank of Motijheel Lake in Murshidabad, West Bengal. Built in 1750 CE by Nawajish Muhammad Khan, the son-in-law of Nawab Alivardi Khan, the mosque is an important Monument of National Importance, managed by the Archaeological Survey of India.
The mosque has three domes and a three-arched façade, with four octagonal minarets topped with bulbous kiosks supported by slender pillars. The structure is rectangular in plan and rests on several octagonal drums, crowned by lotus and kalasha finials.
Nawajish Muhammad Khan named it Kala Masjid, but it is also widely known as Motijheel Mosque. The mosque compound houses the graves of Nawajish Muhammad Khan, Ekramulla, and others, adding to its historical importance. Nawab Alivardi Khan was known to visit the mosque regularly for prayers.
