Mullakkal Rajarajeswari Temple, also known as Mullakkal Bhagwati Temple, is a revered Hindu temple located in the heart of Alappuzha, Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Rajarajeswari, another form of Durga, and is believed to have been built around 500 years ago.
The architecture of the temple is a splendid example of traditional Kerala style, featuring an open-roofed sanctum sanctorum which is a unique characteristic. Surrounding this sanctum are lush jasmine plants, from which the name "Mullakkal" (meaning jasmine in Malayalam) is derived. The tranquil environment and the intoxicating scent of jasmine make visiting this temple an almost ethereal experience.
The temple houses several other deities, including Hanuman, Ganesha, Subramanya, Nagaraja, Navagraha, Krishna, and Ayyappa. There's also a significant sacred grove within the temple premises, where a Shiva lingam is situated under a centuries-old banyan tree.
