Murlen National Park

Murlen National Park, located in the Champhai district of Mizoram near the Indo-Myanmar border, covers around 100 to 200 square kilometers of tropical and semi-evergreen forests. Established as a national park in 1991, it is known for its dense, lush greenery that creates a near-impenetrable canopy, allowing very little sunlight to reach the forest floor, which has earned it the nickname "Land of No Return."

The park is rich in biodiversity, housing rare wildlife such as hoolock gibbons, leopards, tigers, Asiatic black bears, serows, barking deer, and a variety of bird species including peafowl and hill mynas. It also supports numerous orchids, medicinal plants, and bamboo species, making it an important area for both flora and fauna conservation.

The park holds cultural significance for local Mizo tribes, with sacred groves and caves within its boundaries, and community-based conservation efforts help preserve its ecological balance. The best time to visit is between October and March, avoiding the heavy monsoon rains, and the park offers opportunities for trekking, birdwatching, and experiencing the rich natural and cultural heritage of Mizoram.
