The Namgyal Institute of Tibetology (NIT), located in Gangtok, East Sikkim, is a renowned center for Buddhist studies and Tibetan culture. Established in 1958, the institute was inaugurated by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, and its foundation stone was laid by the 14th Dalai Lama. It is named after the 11th Chogyal of Sikkim, Sir Tashi Namgyal, who donated the land for its construction.
