Nandini Wildlife Sanctuary, located about 28 kilometers from Jammu in Jammu and Kashmir, covers an area of approximately 33 to 34 square kilometers. Named after the nearby Nandini village, the sanctuary is known for its rich biodiversity and varied topography.
It provides a natural habitat to several rare and endangered species of mammals such as leopards, wild boars, rhesus monkeys, bharal, grey langurs, Asiatic black bears, musk deer, and goral. It is particularly famous for its diverse bird population, especially various species of pheasants like the Himalayan monal, koklass, and cheer pheasant, along with Indian mynah, blue rock pigeon, peafowl, red junglefowl, and chukar partridge.
The sanctuary also hosts a variety of trees like pine, fir, oak, deodar cedar, and rhododendrons, thriving in the temperate climate of the Himalayan region.
