Narayangad is a historic hill fort located about 80 km from Pune near Narayangaon in Maharashtra, situated on a standalone hill rising sharply from the plains. The fort dates back to the Satvahana era and has significant historical importance as a watchpoint for the ancient Junnar-Paithan route. It was reconstructed and strengthened by Peshwa Balaji Vishwanath and later came under British control in 1818.
The fort is known for its natural cliffs on three sides, small waterponds, and temples like the Hastamata and Mukai Devi temple. It offers picturesque views of the surrounding landscape, including nearby giant radio telescopes, and is accessible via a steep but manageable climb, taking about twenty minutes to reach the top.
Despite being relatively lesser-known, it is popular among trekkers and history enthusiasts for its blend of nature, history, and scenic beauty.
