Nimgiri-Hanumantgad Forts are twin forts located in Junnar taluka of Pune district, Maharashtra, about 25 kilometers from Junnar town. These forts were strategically important during the medieval period as they protected the trade route from Junnar to the Kalyan port via Naneghat.
The forts sit on two peaks of the same hill, connected by a narrow saddle, with steep rock-cut steps leading to the top. Nimgiri Fort features remnants of bastions, rock-cut water cisterns, caves once used for storage, and a small temple with a Gajalakshmi idol and a shivalinga. Nearby Hanumantgad Fort, although less intact, also has fortifications and offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, including other forts like Chavand and Shivneri.
Both forts bear historic ties to the Satavahana dynasty and saw usage by Maratha and Mughal rulers. The forts offer a glimpse into ancient defensive architecture blended with natural terrain, making them a popular trekking and heritage site.
