The Nizamabad Fort, also known as Nizamabad Quilla, is a historic fort located in Nizamabad, Telangana. Built in the 10th century by the Rashtrakuta Kings, the fort is situated on a small hill southwest of the town. Over the centuries, it has been ruled by various dynasties, including the Kakatiyas, Alauddin Khilji, Qutub Shahis, and the Asaf Jahis.
The fort is known for its impressive architecture, featuring large masonry walls with bastions at the corners, reminiscent of Muslim architecture. Inside the fort, visitors can find a mosque, a school, and a jail used by the Asaf Jahi dynasty. The fort also houses the Jagannath Temple, also known as Qilla Ramalayam or Raghunath Temple, which was built by Chatrapathi Shivaji on the orders of his mentor Ramdas Mantra.
