Nun-Kun is a prominent mountain massif in the greater Himalayan range, located in the Kargil district of Ladakh near the border of Jammu and Kashmir. It features twin peaks: Nun, which rises to 7,135 meters (23,409 feet), making it the highest peak in Jammu and Kashmir, and Kun, standing slightly lower at 7,077 meters (23,219 feet).
These two peaks are separated by a snowy plateau about 4 kilometers long. The massif also includes Pinnacle Peak at 6,930 meters. The area is known for rugged terrain, glaciers like the Kangriz Glacier, and challenging mountaineering routes, with Nun first successfully climbed in 1953 and Kun initially ascended in 1913 by an Italian team.
The massif is surrounded by valleys such as Suru and mountain passes like Pensi La, which separate the Suru and Zanskar valleys. Nun-Kun remains a significant destination for experienced mountaineers and offers spectacular views of the high Himalayan landscape.
