Pabitora Wildlife Sanctuary, located in Morigaon district of Assam, covers about 38.85 square kilometers on the southern bank of the Brahmaputra River. Established as a reserved forest in 1971 and declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1987, it is famous for having one of the highest densities of the Indian one-horned rhinoceros, with around 93 rhinos thriving in a small habitat of 16 square kilometers.
The sanctuary features grassland and wetland ecosystems supporting diverse flora including several grass species, and fauna such as leopards, wild boars, barking deer, wild buffalo, and over 2,000 migratory birds.
