Panchchuli II
Panchchuli II is the highest peak among the five snow-capped Panchchuli peaks located in the eastern Kumaon region near Munsiyari in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand. Its altitude reaches 6,904 meters (22,651 feet), making it the tallest peak entirely within the Kumaon Himalayas. The peaks form a natural watershed between the Gori and Darmaganga valleys and lie about 138 kilometers from Pithoragarh.
Named after the legendary "five cooking hearths" of the Pandavas, the range holds a significant place in local mythology. Panchchuli II was first successfully climbed on May 26, 1973, by an Indo-Tibetan Border Police expedition led by Mahendra Singh. The area is popular for trekking and mountaineering, offering stunning views and challenging terrain, and is accessible from Munsiyari, which also serves as a base for the treks.
