Parth Fort
Parth Fort, more commonly known as Vizianagaram Fort, is a historic fort built in 1713 by Vijaya Rama Raju, the Maharaja of Vizianagaram in Andhra Pradesh. The fort is square-shaped, about 240 meters on each side, with stone walls ranging from 8 to 16 meters wide at the top and rising to 10 meters in height.
It features two architecturally elegant gates, the main eastern gate known as "Nagar Khana" which has a drum tower used for announcements, and a smaller western gate that serves as a traditional exit for cremations and connects to royal tombs. The fort is surrounded originally by a moat, now replaced with a garden and park area. Inside the fort are several temples, including those dedicated to Lord Hanuman and Goddess Lakshmi, who is considered the guardian deity of the fort.
The fort complex also contains many palaces and a victory tower, reflecting its historical and royal significance. Built on an auspicious day tied to the concept of victory, the fort holds cultural and architectural importance in the region and is a key heritage and tourist site in Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh.
