Phensang Monastery
Phensang Monastery is a Buddhist monastery of the Nyingmapa Order, located in North Sikkim, India, about 9 kilometers north of Gangtok. Established in 1721 during the time of Jigme Pawo, it is one of the largest monasteries in Sikkim, housing a significant number of monks.
The monastery has undergone several reconstructions due to natural disasters. It was expanded in 1850, but a fire in 1947 destroyed much of the structure, leading to its reconstruction in 1948. Later, torrential rains in 1983 caused severe damage, prompting a complete rebuilding effort that was completed in 1996 with government aid.
