Pualreng Wildlife Sanctuary

Pualreng Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the Kolasib district of northern Mizoram, India, covering an area of around 50 square kilometers. Established in 2004, it is situated at altitudes ranging from 260 to 750 meters and features semi-evergreen tropical forests with sandy soil.

The sanctuary is home to a rich biodiversity including animals such as the Hoolock gibbon, slow loris, clouded leopard, Himalayan black bear, barking deer, sambar, common langur, rhesus macaque, binturong, and Chinese pangolin. It also hosts a variety of birds like the Great Indian hornbill, wreathed hornbill, pied hornbill, khaleej pheasant, Bhutan peacock pheasant, red junglefowl, and white-cheeked partridge.

The climate is mild and pleasant, with summer temperatures around 20°C to 30°C and winter between 10°C and 20°C, along with substantial annual rainfall. The sanctuary's buffer zones face challenges such as habitat disturbance from local agricultural activities and illegal tree cutting, which have led to some forest degradation.

Despite this, Pualreng remains an important protected area for conserving endemic flora and fauna in Mizoram.
