Raj Mahal Palace
The Raj Mahal Palace, also known as Rani Mahal, is a historic royal residence located in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. Built in the 18th century by Raghu Nath-II of the Newalkar family, it served as one of the residences of Rani Lakshmibai, the legendary queen of Jhansi. The palace is a fine example of Bundela architecture, featuring a flat-roofed, two-story structure with a quadrangular courtyard, multi-foiled arches, and intricately decorated interiors.
The Darbar Hall, a highlight of the palace, is adorned with vibrant paintings showcasing floral, faunal, and geometrical motifs. Despite suffering damage during the 1857 Indian Rebellion, the palace has been restored and now houses a museum displaying sculptures and artifacts from the Gupta to Medieval periods.
