Rajabai Clock Tower, located in Mumbai City, Maharashtra, is an iconic heritage structure within the University of Mumbai's Fort campus. Designed by British architect Sir George Gilbert Scott, the tower was inspired by London's Big Ben and was completed in 1878.
Standing at a height of 85 meters, it showcases a blend of Venetian and Gothic architectural styles, featuring intricate stonework and stunning stained-glass windows. The tower was funded by Premchand Roychand, a wealthy stockbroker, who named it after his blind mother, Rajabai.
According to legend, she relied on the tower’s chimes to keep track of time for her evening meals, as per Jain traditions. The structure was once the tallest building in Mumbai and remains a significant part of the city's Victorian and Art Deco Ensemble, which was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2018.
