Rajdher Fort
Rajdher Fort, located about 10 km from Chandwad in Nashik district, Maharashtra, is a hill fort with a rich history dating back to before the Yadava period. It was controlled by the Yadavas in the early 13th century and later came under the rule of Alauddin Khalji, the Faruki dynasty, Mughals, Shivaji Maharaj, the Nizams, and the Peshwas.
The fort played a strategic role in regional defense and was captured by the British in 1818. Situated at an elevation of around 4,400 feet, the fort is built of stone and currently lies in ruins, though water cisterns, rock-cut steps, and inscriptions remain.
The entrance gate features Persian script, and the fort’s layout includes a plateau divided into two parts the Balekilla (main fort) and Machi (fort top). The trek to the fort offers panoramic views of surrounding forts and the Satmala range, making it a popular destination for history enthusiasts and trekkers.
