Rashtrapati Bhawan

Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi is the official residence of the President of India and a symbol of the country's democratic traditions. Originally called the Viceroy’s House, it was built during the British Raj between 1912 and 1929, designed by architect Sir Edwin Lutyens. The grand building covers 5 acres with 340 rooms spread over four floors and sits on a vast estate of about 330 acres.

It blends European Neoclassical architecture with Indian elements like chhatris, lattice screens, and carved elephants, featuring a distinctive central dome inspired by the Sanchi Stupa. The estate includes the famous Mughal Gardens, now called Amrit Udyan, spanning 15 acres with a diverse collection of flowers.

Rashtrapati Bhavan also houses a museum complex showcasing the history and ceremonial aspects of India's presidencies, with numerous reception halls, guest rooms, offices, and staff quarters. It has been the residence of every Indian President since Dr. Rajendra Prasad in 1950 and remains an iconic landmark representing India's heritage and governance.
