Ratangad

Ratangad is a historic hill fort located in the Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra, near the village of Ratanwadi, overlooking the scenic Bhandardara area. The fort stands about 4,250 feet above sea level and is approximately 400 years old. It is often called the "Jewel of the Sahyadris" for its stunning natural beauty and strategic importance.

The fort features four gates named Ganesh, Hanuman, Konkan, and Trimbak, and is known for its natural rock formation called "Nedhe" or "Eye of the Needle," a large cavity formed by wind erosion at the summit. The Amruteshwar Temple near the base of the fort is an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, renowned for its exquisite carvings from the Hemadpant era. The fort offers panoramic views of surrounding peaks like Alang, Kulang, Madan, and Harishchandragad, as well as the Bhandardara Dam.

It is a popular trekking destination, with a moderate trek that takes about 3-4 hours to reach the top, making it accessible for many nature and history enthusiasts. The best time to visit is from October to February when the weather is cool and vegetation lush. The fort's combination of history, architecture, and breathtaking views makes it a cherished spot in Maharashtra's Sahyadri range.
