Revdanda Fort, also known as Fortaleza de Chaul, is a historic fort located in the Raigad district of Maharashtra. Built in 1524 by the Portuguese, this coastal fort is situated at the mouth of the Kundalika River. The fort is surrounded by creek water on three sides, and its main entrance is from the southern side.
Over the centuries, it has changed hands from the Portuguese to the Marathas, and finally to the British in 1818.
The fort is now in a state of ruin, with only the western part of the compound remaining intact. Despite its condition, Revdanda Fort offers a glimpse into the rich history of the region.
The fort is also famous for the chapel where St. Francis Xavier delivered one of his earliest sermons in India.
