Rudra Mahalaya
The Rudra Mahalaya Temple, also known as Rudramal, is a historic temple complex located in Siddhpur, Patan district, Gujarat. It was built during the Chaulukya dynasty in the 10th century by Mularaja and later expanded by Jayasimha Siddharaja in the 12th century. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is renowned for its Māru-Gurjara architectural style.
The temple complex originally featured multiple shrines, halls, and courtyards, showcasing intricate carvings and monumental proportions. However, it was partially destroyed by the Sultan of Delhi, Alauddin Khalji, in 1296 CE, and later by the Sultan of Gujarat, Ahmed Shah I, in 1414 CE. Parts of the temple were converted into a congregational mosque, known as the Jami Masjid.
