Sasbahu Temple

Sasbahu Temple in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, is an 11th-century twin temple complex located within the Gwalior Fort. Built by King Mahipala of the Kachchhapaghata dynasty around 1090-1093, it is dedicated to Hindu gods Vishnu and Shiva. The larger temple, known as "Sas," was constructed for the queen, while the smaller "Bahu" temple was built for the daughter-in-law, symbolizing the relationship of mother-in-law and daughter-in-law.

The temples are notable for their intricate carvings, detailed sculptures, and architectural finesse, featuring a three-storeyed structure with a richly decorated mandapa and platforms. Although much of the original towers and sanctum have been destroyed, the exquisitely carved walls, pillars, and entrance porch survive, showcasing scenes from Hindu mythology, including depictions of Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, and Krishna.

The architectural style blends elements of Bhumija, Nagara, and Dravidian traditions, revealing a blend of artistic and religious heritage from that era. Despite weathering and historical damage, Sasbahu Temple remains a significant cultural and historical landmark in Gwalior, attracting visitors with its ancient charm and artistic grandeur.
