Scott's Bungalow
Scott's Bungalow is a historical colonial-era residence located in Srirangapatna, near Mysuru, Karnataka. The bungalow was the residence of Colonel Scott, an officer of the Madras Army who participated in the Siege of Seringapatam in 1799. The bungalow is situated on the banks of the Cauvery River and is associated with a tragic legend involving Colonel Scott.
According to the legend, after the war, Colonel Scott was placed in charge of a gun factory and lived in the bungalow. Tragedy struck in April 1817 when he returned from an inspection to find that his wife and two daughters had died of cholera.
Devastated, Scott reportedly either drove his horse carriage into the Cauvery River or disappeared without a trace. The Maharaja of Mysore, grieving the loss of his friend, ordered the bungalow to be preserved in the hope that Scott would return.
