The Amarnath Cave is situated at an altitude of 3,888 meters in a narrow gorge at the farther end of the Lidder Valley. The main attraction of the cave is the ice lingam, which is believed to be a natural formation that waxes and wanes with the moon.
The pilgrimage typically starts from Chandanwari and covers a distance of 46 km to the holy cave and back in about five days. The board provides various facilities and services for the pilgrims, including online registration, health advisories, and live updates on the yatra.
