Shri Ballaleshwar Ashtavinayak Temple is one of the eight sacred temples of Lord Ganesha, collectively known as the Ashtavinayak temples, located in Pali, Raigad district, Maharashtra. Ballaleshwar is unique among these temples as it is the only Ganesha temple named after a devotee, Ballal.
The temple is nestled between the Sarasgad Fort and the Amba River, creating a serene and spiritually uplifting environment. The original temple was built in wood in 1640 and later rebuilt in stone in 1760. The temple's architecture is distinctive, shaped like the letter "Shree" in the Devanagari script. It also features two sanctums and a large hall adorned with intricate carvings and eight pillars resembling Cyprus trees.
An interesting historical artifact at the temple is a large bell donated by Chimaji Appa, a Peshwa leader, after his victory over the Portuguese at Vasai and Sasti. Given its historical and spiritual significance, the temple attracts numerous devotees, especially on auspicious occasions like Ganesh Chaturthi.
