Singhori Wildlife Sanctuary

Singhori Wildlife Sanctuary, located in the Bari Tehsil of Raisen district, Madhya Pradesh, spans about 288 square kilometers and was established on July 2, 1976. The sanctuary features a hilly terrain with hills, plateaus, valleys, and plains, enriched by the Ghoghara and Barna rivers which provide crucial water sources for wildlife. It harbors a rich biodiversity including key mammals such as the Royal Bengal Tiger, leopard, sambhar deer, chital, wild boar, Indian bison, wolves, and primates.

The forest type is predominantly tropical dry deciduous with significant teak and bamboo growth, along with species like daora, bija, salai, and khair. Singhori also contains several historical landmarks such as Choukigarh Fort, Bhandariya Temple, and the archaeological caves of Jamgarh, adding cultural significance. Annual events like the Shivaratri fair at Bhandariya Shiva Temple enhance its cultural appeal.

The sanctuary faces challenges from human pressure like grazing and resource exploitation, which threaten its ecological balance, emphasizing the need for conservation efforts to protect its diverse flora and fauna. The nearest major transport links are Raja Bhoj Airport and Bhopal Railway Station, approximately 90 to 100 kilometers away.
