Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary in Tripura covers about 18.53 square kilometers and is located roughly 25 kilometers from Agartala. Established as a protected area in 1987, it features a mix of moist deciduous forest, artificial lakes, a natural botanical garden, a zoological park, and boating facilities.
The sanctuary is well known for its clouded leopard enclosure and houses a diverse range of wildlife including carnivores, various primates like rhesus macaques, pig-tailed macaques, capped langurs, and spectacled langurs, as well as nearly 150 species of birds. It also shelters rare species such as the crab-eating mongoose, which was revived after being last seen in the 1930s. Sepahijala serves not only as a wildlife sanctuary but also as an academic and research center with distinct sections for carnivores, primates, ungulates, reptiles, and birds.
The environment remains green throughout the year, with temperate weather except for two humid summer months. Visitors can experience natural beauty, wildlife observation, boating, and stay in log huts inside the sanctuary for a unique nature experience. The best time to visit is from November to February, and the sanctuary offers facilities including a picnic spot, nature learning and interpretation centers, and a canteen.
