Sirsi

Sirsi is a city located in the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka, situated in the Western Ghats with an elevation ranging between 1860 to 2600 feet. It is known for its lush evergreen forests, numerous waterfalls, and a pleasant tropical monsoon climate with heavy rainfall, contributing to rich biodiversity.

The economy largely revolves around agriculture, with areca nut (betel nut) as the primary crop, alongside spices like cardamom, pepper, vanilla, and betel leaves, and paddy cultivation is common for local food needs. Sirsi has a population of around 150,000 and features a blend of traditional terracotta-tiled houses, Jain basadis, and ancient Hindu temples, including the notable Marikamba Temple.

The Aghanashini River originates near Sirsi, creating several waterfalls on its course to the Arabian Sea. The town is a tranquil commercial center surrounded by natural beauty, attracting tourists with its scenic landscapes and religious sites. It is well connected by road and nearest airports and railway stations are accessible within reasonable distances.
