Sree Valayanad Devi Temple
The Sree Valayanad Devi Temple is a revered Hindu temple dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathy, located in Valayanad near Kozhikode in North Kerala. The temple is known for its rich history and spiritual significance, being the family deity of the Zamorin Kings who ruled Kozhikode during the medieval period.
According to legend, the Zamorin undertook Tapas (austerities) to seek the blessings of the goddess, who manifested before him and agreed to come to his kingdom. During their journey, the goddess told the Zamorin that if he ever turned back to check whether she was with him, she would return immediately.
When the Zamorin hesitated and looked back, the goddess threw her bangle, and the spot where it landed became the site of the temple.
