St. Andrews Church
St. Andrew's Church, located on Mall Road in Darjeeling, West Bengal, is a heritage Anglican church established in November 1843. It is the oldest church in Darjeeling and was primarily built to serve the Scottish soldiers and tea planters residing in the area. The church was initially damaged by a lightning strike in 1867 but was rebuilt in 1873. The clock tower, added in 1883, is one of the notable features of the church.
The church's Gothic architecture, characterized by pointed arches, ribbed vaults, and flying buttresses, adds to its historical charm. Inside, visitors can find marble tablets and brass plaques commemorating some of Darjeeling's oldest residents, including Lt. General Lloyd, known as the 'Discoverer' of Darjeeling, and Charlotte Countess Canning, wife of the Governor-General of India.
