Surajpur Bird Sanctuary, located in Gautam Buddha Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, is a thriving urban wetland in the Yamuna River basin. Spread over approximately 300 acres, it serves as a crucial breeding ground for various waterfowl, including Spot-billed Ducks, Lesser-whistling Ducks, Cotton Pygmy Geese, and Comb Ducks.
The sanctuary is also a wintering site for migratory birds such as Red-crested Pochards, Ferruginous Pochards, Bar-headed Geese, Greylag Geese, Common Teals, Northern Shovelers, and Gadwalls. The sanctuary is part of a conservation initiative led by the Uttar Pradesh Forest Department in collaboration with WWF-India and the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority, aiming to restore and protect its biodiversity.
It is recognized as an eBird hotspot, attracting birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts3.
