It was built by Maharana Swarup Singh between 1842 and 1861 to prevent water congestion and maintain the water levels in the nearby Fateh Sagar Lake and Lake Pichola. The lake is situated behind the famous Jagdish Temple and is connected to the other two lakes, helping to balance the water levels.
