The Talatal Ghar is an impressive 18th-century palace and military base located in Rangpur, about 4 kilometers from Sivasagar, Assam. Built during the reign of Swargadeo Rajeswar Singha in 1765, it is the largest monument constructed by the Ahom dynasty.
The structure features seven stories, with three underground and four above the ground. Originally designed as an army base, the Talatal Ghar includes two secret tunnels used as escape routes during conflicts.
One tunnel stretches about 3 kilometers to the Dikhow River, while the other extends 16 kilometers to the Garhgaon Palace. The ground floor served as stables, store rooms, and servant quarters, while the upper stories housed the royal apartments.
