Timan Garh
Timan Garh Fort, located near Masalpur in Karauli district, Rajasthan, is a historic fort built originally in the 11th to 12th century by Raja Tahanpal of the Jadaun Rajput clan, who claimed descent from the legendary King Yadu. Known also as Tribhuvangiri or Tahangarh, the fort has a rich history, including being captured by Muhammad of Ghor in the late 12th century, after which it remained an important military and administrative center under the Delhi Sultanate and Mughal Empire.
The fort spans approximately 51.5 hectares and originally had five main entrances, with additional gates added during Mughal rule. Inside the fort, there are ruins of ancient palaces, bazaars, houses, and several temples adorned with intricate carvings and sculptures representing Hindu, Jain, and Buddhist traditions, though many have suffered damage and looting over the years.
The site is known for its unique architectural features, including geometrical and floral patterns on rooftops and pillars, with idols of deities such as Lord Ganesha and Lord Vishnu found in the area. Despite now being in a ruined state, Timan Garh Fort remains a significant archaeological and cultural site that offers insight into Rajasthan's medieval past.
