Traditional Rogan Art ( A.GAFUR BHAI )

Traditional Rogan Art is a rare and ancient textile painting craft practiced in the village of Nirona in Kachchh, Gujarat, by the Khatri family, most notably Abdul Gafur Bhai and his relatives. This art originated around 400 years ago, brought from Persia and Sindh, and involves using a thick paste made by boiling castor oil and mixing it with natural stone pigments. The paste is applied with a slender metal rod to create intricate floral, geometric, and calligraphic designs directly onto fabric, often featuring the famous "Tree of Life" motif.

The craft was once near extinction but was revived and popularized by Abdul Gafur Bhai’s family, who have preserved the traditional techniques through eight generations and introduced modern variations for wider appeal. Their work has gained international recognition, including gifts to world leaders, and the art now attracts many tourists to the village. The family has also started training women in the craft to sustain its future. Rogan art is valued for its unique blend of cultural heritage, artistic skill, and the natural materials used in its creation.
