Vanadurga
Vanadurga Fort is located in Vanadurga village in Shahapur taluk of Yadgir district, Karnataka. It was built by Krishnappa Nayaka of the Shorapur Nayaka Dynasty as a station for a small unit of the royal army. The fort's name, meaning "forest fort" in the local language, reflects that it was once surrounded by dense forest, although today the forest has largely disappeared and fields surround the fort.
The entrance gate features Sanskrit inscriptions in Devanagari script, and the entrance is designed with curved, crescent-shaped walls intended to confuse enemy soldiers. Inside, remnants of guard rooms and officers' quarters still remain, along with a well and a temple dedicated to the Hindu deity Hanuman. Despite its age, the fortification walls and citadels are still in good condition.
The fort was reportedly built by the king of Surpur, Piddanayaka, as a tribute to his queen Venkammamba, adding a layer of historical and cultural significance.
