Veerangana Durgavati Wildlife Sanctuary, located in the Damoh district of Madhya Pradesh, was established in 1996 and declared a tiger reserve in 2023. Covering around 2,339 square kilometers, it extends across the districts of Damoh, Sagar, and Narsinghpur, featuring a diverse landscape of hills, valleys, rivers, streams, waterfalls, and grasslands.
The sanctuary is named after Rani Durgavati, a historic queen renowned for her courage. It is part of the dry deciduous forest region rich in teak, saja, dhaora, ber, and amla trees. The sanctuary hosts a variety of wildlife including Bengal tigers, leopards, wolves, jackals, Indian foxes, striped hyenas, sloth bears, nilgai, chinkara, sambhar, blackbuck, and several species of birds, including the critically endangered white-rumped and Indian vultures. It plays a vital role in tiger conservation and connects with the Panna Tiger Reserve, supporting tiger movement and genetic diversity.
The historic Singorgarh Fort is also situated within its boundaries, giving the sanctuary cultural significance alongside its ecological importance.
