In 2010, a major fire severely damaged the market, leaving it in a dilapidated state. However, restoration efforts began in 2015, with the Municipal Corporation of Gwalior overseeing the project. Today, the building houses the GSI Geoscience Museum, inaugurated by Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar in December 2024.
The museum serves as a tribute to Earth’s geological wonders, featuring exhibits on volcanoes, meteorites, gemstones, and fossils.
