Virat Mandir
Virat Mandir, also known as Virateshwar Temple, is a historic Shiva temple located in Sohagpur, Shahdol district, Madhya Pradesh. Built between 950 AD and 1050 AD by Kalchuri King Maharaja Yuvraj Deva, the temple was presented to the Acharya of Golkaki Math. It is considered one of the finest examples of Kalchuri-era architecture, standing 70 feet tall with intricate carvings and sculptures.
The temple complex features statues of Lord Shiva, Parvati, Saraswati, Ganesh, Vishnu, Nandi, and various mythological figures, including erotic sculptures related to Kamasutra, which are characteristic of medieval temple art.
The Banganga Mela, started in 1895 by Rewa Maharaja Gulab Singh, is held in the temple courtyard and lasts for five days.
