Visapur Fort, also known as Visapoor Fort, is a historic hill fort located near Visapur village in Maharashtra, India. Situated at an elevation of 1,084 meters (3,556 feet) above sea level, it is part of the Lohagad-Visapur fortification.
The fort was built between 1713 and 1720 CE by Balaji Vishwanath, the first Peshwa of the Maratha Empire. It played a significant role during the Maratha and British periods, and today it stands as a testament to the region's rich history.
Visapur Fort is larger and at a higher elevation than its twin fort, Lohagad. The fort features caves, cisterns of water, a decorated arch, and old houses. There are also several temples dedicated to Hanuman scattered throughout the fort.
The ruins of a large stone-built house, known as the Peshwa's palace, can also be found within the fort. A well, believed to have been built by the Pandavas, adds to the fort's historical allure.
