The Maldives has crossed the one million visitor mark for the year, with Indian arrivals surpassing 100,000, further cementing India’s role as one of the archipelago’s most important source markets.
According to the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, total tourist arrivals reached 1,036,558 as of 24 June. China remained the largest single market with 162,305 arrivals, followed closely by Russia (144,552).
Other top source countries included the United Kingdom (84,787), Italy (72,802), Germany (65,888), India (100,000+), and France (29,374). Maldives Resorts continued to dominate accommodation choices, drawing 71.8 percent of visitors.
Reaching the one million milestone came amid significant disruptions to international travel, including regional air-route challenges tied to the conflict in the Middle East. To counter these headwinds, Visit Maldives amplified promotional activity in priority regions particularly India, China and Russia while also seeking new source markets.
The ministry said that hitting one million arrivals despite global uncertainty highlights the resilience and coordinated efforts of Maldives’ tourism stakeholders to sustain growth and strengthen the sector.
