Chandrapur district is located in the state of Maharashtra, India. It is situated in the eastern region of the state and is known for its rich mineral resources, particularly coal. The district is named after the ancient Chandrapur Fort, which is located in the city of Chandrapur.

Chandrapur district is bordered by the districts of Gadchiroli and Bhandara to the east, Yavatmal and Wardha to the north, and Nagpur to the west. The district covers an area of approximately 11,443 square kilometers and has a population of over 2 million people.
